Why is baby care is essential in winter season?
During winter most of our energy is used to maintain body temperature. Thus, our immunity takes a hit. Babies have a weaker immunity, so they require more care during winter season.
How to care your baby skin in winter?
Tips:-
1. Keep the House Warm : - Keep a stable warm temperature in the house. Shut the window to block clod breeze or chill but ensure the proper ventilation.
2. Use Humidifier :-
Humidifier help maintain warm temperature and significant levels of moisture in the air. Unlike room heater, humidifier keep your baby skin hydrated.
3. Moisturise your baby's skin :- Use a good and chemical free baby moisturising lotion to keep your baby skin moisturised during cold and dry winter season.
4. Avoid soap :- Daily uses of baby soaps and shampoos, can dry your baby skin and hair. Keep the use limited once or twice a week.
5. Massage :- Massage your baby with warm natural oil to stimulated blood flow in his body and increase his immunity.
6. Clothing :- Dress your baby with warm and comfortable clothes. Ensure that he can still move freely
7. Blanket :- Choose a light weighted blanket to tuck your baby in his crib or bed and blanket doesn't regulate your baby movement or breathing.
8. Breastfeed :- Don't skin any breastfeeding session even if your are introducing solid foods to your baby. Breast milk will help strengthen your baby immunity.
9. Maintain Hygiene :- Maintaining hygiene is essential for your baby health. Use sanitizer and keep your baby surrounding neat and clean.
10. Soups :- If your baby 9 months or older, you may introduce him to warm vegetable and non-vegetarian soup with appropriate quantity.
Things to do if baby falls in sick during winter
1. Keep your baby hydrated:- Ensure you breastfeed your baby appropriate. If he introduced solid foods, feed warm soup to hydrate him.
2. Cuddle your baby :- Cuddle your baby to keep him warm and make him to feel protected. You will also make bond with your little one this way.
Home remedies:-
- Apply coconut oil 15-20 minutes before bathing your child to protect the natural moisturizing factors.
- Use lukewarm water for bathing as it will help in the oil to stay longer on the baby's skin.
- Skin protection always use soap that are sulphate free and have pH balance 5.5.
- For softer and smoother skin, regularly use moisturizing lotion that is recommended by dermatologist.
- To avoid irritation caused by woolen clothes, make your child wear a thin cotton garments underneath.
