Yeast infection are especially common during pregnancy because hormone changes can disrupt the pH balance of the vagina. Yeast Infection occurs when the normal levels of acid and yeast in the vagina are out of balance.
Causes of Yeast Infection during pregnancy
- Hormonal changes during pregnancy.
- Intake of birth control pills.
- Intake of antibiotics.
- Vaginal intercourse during pregnancy.
- High blood sugar.
Symptoms of Yeast Infection
- White thick discharge that looks like cottage cheese.
- Greenish or yellowish smelly discharge.
- Increased vaginal discharge.
- Redness in vaginal area.
- Burning sensation during urination.
- Irritation during intercourse.
- Pain during sex.
- Watery vaginal discharge.
Diagnose of Yeast Infection
Your healthcare provider will diagnose by vaginal examination. If yeast infection is diagnosed then vaginal discharge sample will be further examined by microscope or the sample will be sent to the lab for further diagnose.
Treatment of Yeast Infection during Pregnancy:-
If yeast infection left untreated, it may pass to your baby's mouth during delivery. Doctor will recommended to use vaginal cream. Oral medications are not proven to be safe during pregnancy. After the infection has cleared up using a starch free during powder or nystatin powder to prevent a recurring infection.
How to prevent Yeast Infection?
- Wear cotton loose panties.
- Don't use sanitary pads contain deodorant.
- Don't use femine hygiene sprays.
- Use gentle or pH balance soap to thoroughly clean vaginal area.
- Drink lots of water and take plenty of rest.
- Include yogurt in your diet.
- Limit intake of sugar, intake lots of sugar promotes the growth of yeast.
- Clean your genital area gently everyday and wipe from front of back. Don't take any medicine to treat yeast infection in pregnancy. Take medicine only prescribed by the Doctor after proper examination of your health. It take upto 15 days to clear up the infection during pregnancy.
- Avoid Hot tubs or very hot baths.
- Avoid Unnecessary antibiotic uses such as for cold or other viral infections.
- Avoid staying wet cloths such as swimsuit, for long period of time.
